STARS still 'kin Sparkle OFF Stage an' Screen:
A fellow THESPIAN give us her very own covid-era epic tale, truly One from the Heart*
*One from the Heart IMO also happens to be possibly the BEST MODERN movie musical ever made, a last hurrah to technicolor, sadly never given its due… it's a GEM, Coppola took a mighty risk, I think it wuz worth it!
TODAY I need to share a Wunder-ful Stack Postin' from one of my "Thee-Ate-Her" compatriots, Visceral Adventure.
It's bold, heartfelt, TRUE, clear-headed, and expresses "unmincingly" SO MANY've my own senty-mints. Read it, y’all:
***********************
An' while yer at'it, DO check out all the other marvelous stuff n' substance she writes about includin' her brilliant n' biting vidde-yos!

Daisy makes sum' notes....
…since this topic is very important ta me
As y'all know, I started my stack cuz it's one thing bein' screwed by "New York New York, A Helluva** Town" an' quite the another bein' left high n' dry by YER OWN COM-MUNITY -- which should be called Com-mutiny now cuz the fool follererz of Saint Covid done fired all the sane n' Sensible Captains an' in their stead hired woke-i-fried IDIOTS to steer-crash the Good Ship Wonderful into the rocks! Dashed the gol'durned thinkin' brains out've a formerly intelligent world like a double-ruthless Lady Macbeth (though hers wuz just a STORY, the impulsive, selfish and violent guttin' out of theater an' film an' creative arts wuz/is REAL—and tragic; this WAS our BABY too.) They killed Art. (not him tho-) No joke.
** fer the movie Comden N' Green had to change it from "helluva" ta "Wonderful" -- ABSURD sez this boid. Go to the 2min40 sec mark fer the original...
Thee-ate-her folks were WARM, FUZZY, HUGGY, "Nurturin' " an' OPEN-MINDED. Welcomin' even! (Willkommen, Bienvenue, Welcome!) Until they warn't. Film folks too. Until they warn't. I deftly straddled--ha!--both'a them worlds with my fambly an' both'a these pet micro-cause'ums turned a bee-u-tea-ful aquarium into a murky tank'a flesh-eatin' piranhas....
So, yes, the "ahrtz" went full out fash-shitz an' BANNED we the unjabbed ('et their own they did!) an' not only that--we wuz villi-fried (gut-ripped lit'rally); not just banned from troddin' them boards, we couldn't work, couldn't audition, couldn't even frickin' meet fer cawfee, couldn't sing, couldn't dance, couldn't BREATHE (gawd no, we super-spreadurz) an' fer sayin' "no thanks" politely to all that... we got all manner've nasty hurled back at us. Nuthin' we DID, it was just about us decidin' to DIDN'T. They took our no thanks an' sent back a Fuk-U (no tee-shirt included even).
None've us went out an "killed granny" -- we used ta "kill 'em in the aisles" tho ! --sorry, still like my cornball. But seriously, TO THIS DAY I have ol' friends (now non-friends) that won't even TALK TO ME fer NOT optin' ta take the jabs an' also fer the CRIME of teachin' a thee-ate-her kids course fer un-masked un-be-jabbered kids. Oh the horror. Call me... "irresponsible"--yup, they did. Dangerous even! (Talk'bout puttinin' the blame on Mame! tho' haha I'm fur less Gilda an' a leeeetle close in the tooth to Roz Russell....whose Mame wuz also blamed unfairly! Anywhoo...
Visceral Adventure deserves a BIG HAND fer this important piece'a hers.
She's in "My Kinda Town, Chicago..."
…where them winters'r purdy cold even when ya arn't cancelled!
Warmth an’ a warm hats off ta my fellow thespian! (whose a very good writer too!)
(An' that ain't no woke-i-fried tom foolery ;-)
Daisy
Now ya kin buy me a cuppa java if ya like, alwayz grateful fer y’all!

PS I add below a copy of my mostly unedited "com-mint" on Visceral Adventure's site in case it shine's a few more spotlights on the problems we Ahrts folks encounter in the biz... from the mee-too stuff ta wokery… an’ the harms done (to us hams!)
This iz it:
Oh my golly, you DID IT. Brava! Double Brava! I know this was wellin' up but it was hard to find the right way to let out the geyser--but ya found the way. An' bee-u-tifully. Holdin' up a cuppa Granny's "Magic Moonshine Brew" to give ye a toast (tho' I did like that Irish one ya added 'fore the "fin" on this'un... )
Couldn't keep my own eyes dry when you wrote, "They, too, have had their glass menagerie broken." Oh gosh. Yes. True. All the Lauras in our hearts. (An' in recallin' that, it also came ta mind that even the frickin' unicorn's been co-opted by a trademarked movement... havin' meant SO much in the play...) Sigh. But anywayz... this was BEAUTIFUL.
So much'a what ye wrote spoke ta me. I too sawr the writin' on the wall when thee-ate-hers started to go fer all this mee-too (vir-choo!) signifyin' monkey-bunk (duz that not sound like soup #3 on the menu? MeeToo? I would've ordered MeeTooChowFun instead cuz I like ta eat!--not very peecee'a me but I ain't!). But seriously, yup, I sort a sawr it too... It warn't purdy. I saw how all them lil' "indescre-shuns" we thee-ate'er folks all engage in became weaponized like spray-foam prop swords. Folks'at live with their emotions all werked up (by nay-chur) 'r gonna sometimes git handsy 'er romanc-y 'er an' engage in viper-tongued Kiss-Me-Kate Lunt-Fontanne fugly type'a snits--I mean that IS theater an' it's sure behind the scenes as wull as in front've the curtain. So sure, back'in the day when my proverbial ass wuz more like a mini donkey I could've been spared some unwanted "pats" an' attention--but bein' able to open my big trap an' say "keep yer hooves off farmer Bozo" was far BETTER n' the pall this whole mee-too-no-fun mess has put on the whole energy've cast n' crew "fraternizin' " an' sure, flirtin' some too. I missed that long 'fore things got SuperFund toxic! There is too much ta unpack here but I feel there wuz more permanent HARM done to all thee-ate-her by this (bowel) movement--literally dumpin' on us all, makin' us police our every movement. We were all ABOUT hugs, naughty jokes... Oy vey, it wuz bad...
An' then came the woke part an' the bipoc-disability-baloney castin'. I won't go there now, I've dunnit a bit in more'n one've my postin's but the pernt is this was like one more nail'in the coffin' 'fore the final one--"covidCon".... right? Hard 'nuff fer me (bein' an ostensibly undisabled non-intersectional white laydee--an' "straight" too --whut is this CIS? a gender, nu?--I know from cisterns...sis is fer sister, the rest is made-up lingua funky--SO anywayz, it was HARD 'nuff fer me to not git work or to be told ta shut my trap cuz I was no longer "any buddy" on the new food pyramid (I literally wuz once told that as a "white woman" I should cede my turn to speak up cuz white conver-say-shuns dom-in-nated bipoc voices...BERK barf!)...
So anywayz, this DIE message (Diversity Inclusion Equity to me means DIE theater, DIE!) wuz hard 'nuff fer me but my younger daughter took this bitter pill even' harder. Fer example, imagine auditionin' fer something based on "voice" an "age"--an' then bein' told that she didn't git the part cuz she was "not diverse enough." True story. Show wuz off-bway an' they cast a non-bio-nary "gurl" who appears to be black (not sure whut her color flag identity is...). Sigh. Mebbe she wuz better? I'll never know... Happen'd again for a singin' bit on the RuPaul Drag Race show (which, btw, I hadn't wartched then but did after we got the nooz DD warn't diverse enuf from that producer AND oh my lordy, what a pile'a dung, it made TeleTubbies look like Apostrophes!--never seen more brain-dead folks in one place). But anyway, kids take it harder and they wunder, why bother? Why practice, why even audition? Why do they not SAY (they do sometimes...) if they want a rainbow “furry?” Anyone not in the thee-ate-her biz knows that EVERY audition you have stomak ache an' butterflies an' anxiety an' ya go thru all this motion sickness JUST so you can hopefully git a chance at doin' what ye love best... but to MAKE kids (adults too but kids have fewer defense mech-a-nizms) go thru this fer nuttin' --is MEAN. It's downright mean.
An' then came "CovidCon" an' we all were banned on TOP of all that LANDFILL. So, as ye know, I'm DONE too. And yet I HOPE hope hope! thee-ate-her will be theater agin' !
Thank ya SO MUCH for the kind and special mention--I'm SO flattered and honored! I'm so glad ta have found ya too--we all are reachin' out over this crazy void... with WORDS (an' woids). I wouldn't be on substack if I wuz workin' either, but this is like our lil' OASIS (whoa!, Asus! -- asus bein' short fer Pegasus, which mebbe is what we got...some fresh water fer our own winged horses!)
Anywayz agin', I'm SO glad ya got this outta yer system an' into the ETHER. I fer one am grateful--as WE the ousted DO need a listen. I know it warn't easy, it's a long drink but it's a good'un. So cheers back! Raisin' (raisins!) another cuppa Magic Moonshine Brew to ya!
with warmest thoughts,
Daisyps just a dab'a stack-lore that Daisy Moses (my thee-act-trickle namesake ha ha ) hails from them Smoky Mountain's a' Tennessee (close 'nuff ta Texas in spirit! an' I DO wish we had sum Texas Tea, aka oil, income.... seems like our sorry ol' gov-a-mint don't want no Texas Tea fer any've us here'bouts--I do bee-lieve they'z wantin' us ta freeze!) Anywayz, once agin' I'm EVER so grateful fer yer kind "woids" 'bout my lil' ol' corner've the sky....
Ok, I have never seen or heard of that musical. Will be putting that on my list!
Thanks for the shoutout, Daisy! And yes, I’ll have to get buddy with g up on stuff I missed here in your corner of the world. I bet there was lots more insanity in NY than in Chicago.
wull a' course an' my pleasure fer the shout out! STILL am SO befuddled why NO ONE else is speakin' up... NYC has been a festerin' boil of insanity--and it continues--still the mandates--but sounds like ChiTown warn't spared much either. So sad... (I also weep at them firin' all the smart ol'lady docents at the Art Institute... WHY?)
And yes, if ye can, do SEE "One From the Heart" (it's a little grown up so not fer under 12 set)--I was lucky to see it projected ON film in cinemascope--it's gorgeous--but even on the lil' screen---Raoul Julia's in it, Terry Garr is BRILLIANT, crazy Tom Waits and Crystal Gayle score... it's just (ta me) magical... and this's from a fan'a the OLD ones. But of course so was Coppola. (I even like the real old'uns like Gold Diggers 've 1933! and of course all the classic b'way ones....noticed yer own Chicago ref. in your piece!)
As someone that thinks most modern ones just stink....if I had a terlet big 'enuf I'd flush LaLaLand an' Showman down all the way to Chynna! this one... IS from the heart... hope ya git ta see it... the performances /acting is marvelous too (imho)...
Gotta grab the magic in the air--AND in the ether!
