Ok, I have never seen or heard of that musical. Will be putting that on my list!
Thanks for the shoutout, Daisy! And yes, I’ll have to get buddy with g up on stuff I missed here in your corner of the world. I bet there was lots more insanity in NY than in Chicago.
wull a' course an' my pleasure fer the shout out! STILL am SO befuddled why NO ONE else is speakin' up... NYC has been a festerin' boil of insanity--and it continues--still the mandates--but sounds like ChiTown warn't spared much either. So sad... (I also weep at them firin' all the smart ol'lady docents at the Art Institute... WHY?)
And yes, if ye can, do SEE "One From the Heart" (it's a little grown up so not fer under 12 set)--I was lucky to see it projected ON film in cinemascope--it's gorgeous--but even on the lil' screen---Raoul Julia's in it, Terry Garr is BRILLIANT, crazy Tom Waits and Crystal Gayle score... it's just (ta me) magical... and this's from a fan'a the OLD ones. But of course so was Coppola. (I even like the real old'uns like Gold Diggers 've 1933! and of course all the classic b'way ones....noticed yer own Chicago ref. in your piece!)
As someone that thinks most modern ones just stink....if I had a terlet big 'enuf I'd flush LaLaLand an' Showman down all the way to Chynna! this one... IS from the heart... hope ya git ta see it... the performances /acting is marvelous too (imho)...
Gotta grab the magic in the air--AND in the ether!
One of my little ones is really into musicals. He’s doing his puberty thing now but hoping to get him to spend some quality time with his mom watching this musical. I’m a fan of all the performers you mention.
I didn’t see LaLaLand but The Greatest Showman was a huge disappointment.
Btw, I really liked your daughter’s cut-out idea. If she has more of those, send my way for the video. No rush, I know you guys are moving. We can see what we can make happen after the new year. 🤗
lol, yes the puberty thang is QUITE the thang ;-) -- my 14 yr old is still in that "zone"-- But am glad ta hear yer sharin' some good musicals with yer kiddos! One from the Heart is a little grown up--like seein' an Altman film as a musical--but it's wonderful, heartfelt. For the old'uns, folks've put up the original b'way recordin's of the shows (bootlegs? not sure...) on YT (ya gotta hunt 'em down!) an' they are SO MUCH BETTER'n nearly all've the "recent" so-called re-snivels!
I know I found the brilliant Angela-w/-Len Cariou-Sweeney thar--I avoided the Tim Burton version... (BTW the movie've Chicago I thought was SO gawd awful we couldn't even git thru it..I hope ya were spared that obscenity--it was!) Haha, yer generous to call "Showman" a disappointment. That said, I do love shows'bout showbiz an' I wuz one've the five people that LOVED Barnum (Jim Dale was perfect in it...I recall the thing flopped) an' I wuz also one've the 2 people the loved Sideshow ('bout Violet n' DAISY the siamese twins) -- original only, the revival not so hot... mebbe online too..
Not sure if yer a G&S fan (we are here'bouts) but doin' the Mikado without the "oriental" (they were all white English schoolgirls...) is like goin' swimmin' without water--it was just 'bout the straw that broke the camel's back in stoo-pid-ity fer us... It's gone too fahr!
Anywayz, enjoy the music-cales!
Great re the "paper Joe"!!--I know the plan wuz to use similar cut outs... lil sunglasses, lil ice cream cone, like paper doll props... oh that reminds me! She did a test've cut-out Joe with Ashley--I'll send it along :-)
